Beside all the health benefits, making your own Instant Pot Bone Broth is so deliciously simple! Believe me when I say, you’re going to kick yourself for not doing it sooner!
If you have been following me on Facebook, you will see that I have had a noticeable absence the last 10 days. I usually post a recipe or two a week, but was just not able to do so lately. Let me be the first to say that it’s not just because of the holidays…
It’s really because I turned into a disaster in the kitchen. It’s like my brain went on vacation. Seriously, check out my banana bread disaster! But, I am glad to say I have finally pulled myself together! Instant Pot Bone broth was the perfect recipe to get me back into the swing of things!
Yes, I finally took the plunge and made Bone Broth in the Instant Pot! Not only was it super easy (which I am all about), but it is also the most delicious tasting broth I have ever had!
For a while I was really thrown off by the whole Bone Broth thing. I kept seeing everyone mention it on Facebook when taking about making pretty much any recipe. Every time I would read a comment about someone saying they made a recipe but used their own broth I would secretly roll my eyes. I mean, I knew it was supposed to be good for you, but it just seemed like such a hassle to make. Plus, why make bone broth when you can just buy it (or any other broth) in the carton at the store?
Well, I will be the first to admit that I was completely naive. I had no idea how ridiculous that statement was until I made it for myself. Store broth/stock just doesn’t even compare! You get so much more flavor with this!
Making your own bone broth is so simple and I am now completely on board! Not only is this broth delicious, but it’s very healthy too! Instant Pot bone broth is rich in minerals that support the immune system and contains healing compounds like collagen, glutamine, glycine and proline.
Instant Pot Bone Broth
Preheat oven to 350. Arrange bones on a baking sheet and bake for 40 – 50 minutes. (If you already roasted your bones before, you can skip this step).
Let the bones cool slightly then put the bones in the Instant Pot. Pour the pan drippings in the pot as well (optional)
Pour enough water in the pot to just cover the bones completely (be sure not to go over the maximum line on the pot). Pour in the apple cider vinegar and let sit for 15 – 20 minutes.
Add the carrot, onion, and seasonings (salt & pepper). These ingredients do not have to be peeled or chopped. They are for flavor and will be removed later. If you do not peel them, try and use organic vegetables. If those are not available, just wash them with lime/lemon juice or vinegar, and water.
Put on the top of the Instant Pot (be sure the toggle switch is in the SEAL position). Press “soup” and manually bring the time up to 120 minutes. When the time is up, do a quick release until the pin drops and open the lid AWAY from you.
Remove all the bones and set them aside.
Place a colander/sieve on top of a large bowl, ladle out the broth into the colander to remove any bits of fat and other stuff, along with the carrot and onion.
Place the bowl in the fridge and allow to completely cool. The fat will rise to the top of the broth. Skim this off and discard or keep for future frying (potatoes, onions, etc.) and that’s it! The broth is now ready to consume.

What time modifications would you make if using frozen bones?
I would thaw the frozen bones before roasting, Dani!
Can I can this recipe in mason jars?
We haven’t tried canning the bone broth, but it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days. Or you can store it in the freezer for up to 6 months.
Cannot wait to make this today! 🥰 I tried on stove top before and it was a disaster. Thanks for the post. Egg roll bowl after bone broth.
I have bones from a cooked prime rib. They have already been cooked. Will these work for bone broth?
Yes Theresa, you would just skip the roasting step.
This might be a silly question, but where do you get the bones from? Is it off of meat that you used from a different meal or did you buy the bones on their own?
You can use bones from a previous meal and skip the roasting step, or you can purchase bones from the butcher section of any grocery store.
Hi there
Thanks for the great money saving broth idea.
Just wondering how much it makes and how long it lasts in the fridge?
Carol
Hi Carol! I only leave it in the fridge for a week at the absolute longest. But, you can freeze this and use it as just as easy. How much it makes depends on big your bones are and how much water you are adding. I have generally been able to get 3-4 quarts with 2 pounds of marrow bones though.
