If you haven’t had the chance to check in with me on social media lately, I would like to give you a tun highlight. Over the past few weeks, I have been steadily getting ready for the holiday season, just like I’m sure you all have. A few weeks ago, I had an amazing opportunity to participate in a supermarket sweeps at the opening of the brand new Ocean State Job lot in Troy New York.
Along with being a super fun event, it actually benefited charities in my local community. While I didn’t win first place, I did tie for second place winning a $250 OSJL gift card. I designated my prize to go to the Open door Mission in Glens Falls New York. For those of you that aren’t local, the Open Door Mission operates a soup kitchen, shelter, and so many more essential things for the homeless in my community.
While I was at the event, I had the privilege of learning so much about The Ocean State Job Lot. One of the main takeaways for me was how charitable they really are. I learned that when they come into a community, they actually make a commitment to give back to that community. The store in Troy was no different.
For each new store opening like the one in Troy, The Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation chooses local food banks and a ‘Close to Your Heart’ local charity to provide donations. In the case of the Troy store, they donated a tractor trailer full of food to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.
Another little interesting tidbit I learned while at the event was that The Ocean Sate Job Lot sources the food at their discounted prices, meaning they can get much higher quantities at a much lower cost. They also transport it with their own trailers leaving the food banks no costs to cover.
With the opening of the Troy store, Ocean State Job Lot hired 50 employees and had them help get the store ready to open instead of their traditional opening team. When you walk in that store, you can just tell that the employees really take pride in it. The Ocean State Job lot in Troy was the 132 store opening.
For me, I feel like when a company is as giving as the Ocean State Job Lot to the community that supports them then they really deserve my hard earned money. And, with the amazing prices on the high quality merchandise they carry I can actually stretch a buck pretty far too! Make sure to stop by the brand new Ocean State Job Lot if you are in the area!
