When you are running around like a mad women, one of the last things on your mind is dinner (at least for me). That’s the real reason I fell in love with my Instant Pot, as did millions of others. If it wasn’t for this magic machine, I would seriously only be making turkey once a year. I mean, who really has time to stand over the stove and make homemade gravy, baste the turkey breast every 20 minutes, ect. Plus, the clean up is always atrocious!

Cut open Butterball turkey breast bag and rinse breast under warm water until you can remove the gravy pouch. Do not cut the inner netting of the breast, it will help it keep it’s shape. Run gravy pouch under warm water and set aside.

Remove breast and set aside to rest. Scoop out potatoes into a large bowl straining out as much juice as possible and set aside. I just use a slotted spoon for this.

Remove about 1/2 cup of liquid from the Instant Pot and mix with cornstarch. Please note, if you like a thicker gravy you can mix in another tablespoon of cornstarch. but the gravy will thicken as it sits. Turn Instant Pot onto saute and add cornstarch mixture back to pot. Heat until boiling and stir constantly. Turn pot off and continue to stir for another minute. Then let it sit for a minute or two to thicken.

While gravy is sitting, return to potatoes and mash. Add salt and pepper to taste. BE CAREFUL with the salt because the potatoes cooked in a salty broth. Cut up turkey breast and enjoy!

A few things to keep in mind

  • If you want to use a bone in turkey breast, you will need to adjust the time. I have not done a bone in breast yet, but you can check out the Instant Pot Facebook group for some examples. You just need to use the group search function to find examples.
  • You can use any spice combination you want! Just use mine as an example and talior it to your own families taste.
  • You can use whatever potatoes you prefer. You also don’t have to peel them if you don’t want to. I just have a picky 5-year-old so that means I have to peel them.
  • Another note about potatoes, they will not look white due to the color of the broth they are cooking in. If you have a picky eater that only likes white colored mashed potatoes, keep that in mind. You may want to just cook them separately if color makes a difference.
