These Cheesy Pretzel Sticks are a crowd-pleasing appetizer that are quick, cheap, and easy to make. All you need is 30 minutes and a few inexpensive ingredients to put together a snack your friends and family will love.

How to Make Cheesy Pretzel Sticks

To make these pretzel sticks, you’ll need just a few ingredients: baking soda, Pillsbury pizza dough, pepper jack cheese sticks, one egg and coarse salt.

Next, you’ll bring 2 quarts of water to a boil in a large pot. After the water stays to boil, slowly add the baking soda and reduce the heat just low enough to keep the water at a simmer.

While you’re waiting for the water to boil, spread the dough out on a lightly greased baking sheet. Cut it into 8 rectangles. Try to make them similar in size.

Place a cheese stick on top of each rectangle.

Then, just fold the dough around the stick. Make sure to pinch the seams closed so the cheese doesn’t ooze out the sides when it cooks. Also, try to avoid stretching the dough too thin since that can also result in oozy cheese. I know it sounds delicious, but trust me, it’s a mess!

Next, use a slotted spoon to dip the sticks into the boiling water. You want to do this quickly. We’re not boiling the pretzel sticks, we’re just trying to get a light coat of the baking soda water on each one. That’s what gives pretzels their distinctive taste and beautiful brown coat.

After all of the pretzel sticks have been dipped in the boiling baking soda water, you’ll brush them with an egg wash and sprinkle them with the salt.

Finally, you’ll pop them in the oven to bake for 10 to 12 minutes. At this point, your family and friends will come rushing to the kitchen because the smell is AMAZING. But make them wait a few minutes while the pretzel sticks cool so they don’t burn their tongues.
