4 Simple Ingredients

Ham – For the best flavor, use a bone-in ham with a layer of fat on the surface to ensure juiciness and allow the glaze to caramelize. A pre-cooked spiral-cut honey ham is reliably delicious and convenient for serving, but you might want to cut back on the sugar in the glaze.

Buy the size that your Instant Pot will accommodate.

  • A 6-quart Instant Pot will hold a 5-6 pound ham.
  • An 8-quart pot will cook a 7-8 pound ham.

Orange Juice – Frozen orange juice is fine, or use freshly squeezed. Substitute apple or pineapple juice if you prefer.

Mustard – Dijon mustard has the best flavor for a ham glaze. Switch it out for mustard powder, or your favorite prepared mustard.

Brown Sugar – Salty and sweet is an irresistible flavor combination; use brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup. These will not only enhance the flavor of ham but will meld with the proteins to create a mouthwatering sticky brown glaze.

Variations – Spice up your ham to your preference. Get creative with allspice or cinnamon. Go with a classic favorite by covering the surface with fresh or canned pineapple slices and stud the surface with whole cloves, or add a touch of powdered cloves to the glaze mixture.

Favorite Recipes for Leftovers

  • Ham shouldn’t be allowed to go to waste! Leftovers are perfect for giving a flavor upgrade to so many dishes. Use the leftovers in a chicken cordon bleu casserole. Substitute ham for bacon in chicken mac and cheese.
  • Chop it up to punch up the taste of a breakfast or potato casserole. Give baked potato soup a boost of smoky goodness with a generous garnish or chopped ham. Or, use leftover ham as a main ingredient in an irresistible potato salad.
  • Leftovers can be stored for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator, or up to 2 months in the freezer.
  • Wrap tightly in plastic or aluminum foil, or both, to prevent drying out.
  • Frozen ham should be thawed in the refrigerator.

Tips for a Juicy Instant Pot Ham

  • Place the ham on a trivet in the Instant Pot, and add ½ a cup of water.
  • Broil the ham for 2-3 minutes after pressure cooking in the Instant Pot to caramelize the glaze.
  • After removing from the Instant Pot allow the ham to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
